Sex cinema or swinger club?

If you put sex cinema and swinger club in the same search, you usually want a door decision: walk-in and a screen, or an evening among guests with a cloakroom. The words overlap in hybrids. The contract at the door does not.

A sex cinema, in everyday German, is a house that mainly shows porn films, 18+. The large halls of the 1960s and 70s are rare. What remains is often a cabin, a small room, or a screen inside another house. A swinger club sells the chance of sex between guests, not with staff. Same city, two tickets.

Day ticket or evening

A sex cinema typically sells access: films, cabins, rooms. Many houses sell a day ticket and open in the afternoon. Kinky in Kempten, on its site, writes Monday to Thursday 13:00–22:00, a day ticket of 22 euros for men and couples, free for women. That is one house, not a national rate.

A swinger club typically sells an evening. Wikipedia describes opening from around 8 p.m., often Friday and Saturday, a cloakroom, lingerie, a couple rate. Single men are often more expensive or need to register. You are a guest among guests. Sex is not owed because you paid the door.

There is no 2026 figure that says the cinema is cheaper. Older press named other day tickets for other houses. The encyclopedia names couple rates for clubs without a year. The number that counts is on the house page.

Who is in the room

Press and encyclopedias describe sex cinemas as heavily male. The taz, in 2008, wrote about Berlin’s Erotica: people came in the lunch break, before or after work, quickly and discreetly, women only very rarely. ZEIT, in 2016, wrote about a Hamburg house: most guests were men, the hardcore scenes on 8,000 films drew little attention. That is reporting on two houses, not a national share for 2026.

A swinger club is built around couples. “Anything can, nothing must” is scene language, not cinema language. Wikipedia puts it this way: a guest, unlike in a brothel, has no claim on sexual contact. Liberty Rose in Saarland writes it is a private swinger club and not a brothel, that prostitutes are not admitted, and that there is no guarantee of sex. Club Saphir and Waldhaus Sigmaringen write the same line in their own words. That is operator copy for those doors, not a promise for every club in the country.

The film is the legal reason, often the backdrop

Section 184 of the Criminal Code forbids showing a porn film in a public screening for a fee that is wholly or mainly charged for that screening. That is why many houses sell cabins, or an entrance that is mainly drinks, food or a show. The Court of Justice of the European Union held in 2010 that paying to sit alone in a film cabin is not a “cinema admission” for the reduced VAT rate.

In the room the film can still be decoration. ZEIT described that for one Hamburg house. Wikipedia notes that after video and the internet, operators changed what they sell. The statute still looks at the screening. The evening can look at the other guests.

Three neighbouring doors

A video cabin is a lockable booth, often in a sex shop, paid by the minute. Wikipedia describes the rooms as matter-of-fact: wipe-clean walls, paper towels, almost only men. That is not an evening with a buffet.

A sauna club or FKK club in this trade is often wellness plus sex work. That is a different door from a swinger club. There is already a piece on this site about the sauna club. There is no FKK category in the directory.

A screen can sit inside a brothel or a swinger club. Wikipedia and the press describe that range. The word cinema on the sign does not say whether you are among guests, among paid sex work, or both. The house page decides.

What the law looks at

Criminal Code, section 184(1) no. 7

That sentence shapes the cinema. The Prostitutes Protection Act shapes something else. A prostitution establishment is rooms used as a place of business for paid sexual services. A performance that is only theatrical, with nobody else sexually involved, is not that. The word cinema is not in the statute.

The Neustadt Administrative Court, on 7 October 2020 (5 L 783/20.NW), treated one adult cinema that mainly showed porn films as a cinema, not a prostitution establishment. It was an emergency decision in the pandemic, about one house. It is not a rule that every sex cinema falls outside the Act.

Baden-Württemberg’s administrative rule says a house that calls itself a sauna club, FKK club or swinger club is a prostitution establishment if prostitutes work there with the operator’s knowledge. Sex cinema is not named in that list. If paid sexual services happen in the rooms, the label on the flyer does not decide.

Consent, no photos, no chasing someone who said no: cinema operators write that too. Kinky in Kempten puts it on its house rules. The difference is the claim. A swinger club typically says: no brothel, no guarantee. A cinema typically sells the room and the film.

• Film, contact, or both?
• Does the site mention prostitution, yes or no?
• Cabin, hall, or a screen inside another house?
