What is a sauna club?
Wellness as the set, paid sex extra. FKK on the door is not naturism. How it differs from a laufhaus, a swinger club and a sex cinema.

If you search “what is a sauna club” or “what is an FKK club”, you usually want one split: is this a spa, or is this sex work? The short answer in Germany: a sauna club is typically a brothel with a wellness stage set. You pay at the door for time in the house. Sex is a second contract, with a person who may say no.
FKK on a club sign is not Freikörperkultur. Naturist clubs have said so for years. The letters are the same. The evening is not.

What sauna club and FKK club mean
In the trade, contact sauna, sauna club and FKK club name the same kind of house: sauna, whirlpool, rest rooms, often an erotic cinema, and rooms for sexual services. FKK clubs sit next to a laufhaus or a massage parlour in that typology.
You can visit without buying sex. That is part of the model, not a loophole. The sexual service is not in the ticket. It is agreed on site, then paid to the worker, who in many houses is self-employed.
FKK is not naturism
Freikörperkultur is communal nudity without a sexual aim. Dietmar Binder, chair of a naturist club, put it to dpa in July 2026: there are FKK clubs in the red-light milieu, and swinger clubs. “We have nothing to do with that.” DFK president Alfred Sigloch: nudity in naturism is expressly not sexually coded. Sexual acts are forbidden there.
The letters FKK are not a protected mark. A sauna club can print them on the door without belonging to a naturist association. If you want a beach or a sports club, you are in the wrong search.
What the door fee typically buys
- Reception, ID, a locker. A towel, bathrobe or slippers are often handed out.
- Sauna, steam, pool or rest rooms. Some houses include soft drinks or a buffet.
- Sex is not in the ticket. Type, duration and pay are agreed with the person, then you go to a room.
- Phones are banned in several houses. That is about the privacy of the people working, not about your holiday snaps.
There is no national average price here. One Berlin mega-brothel with sauna and pool is reported as charging a day ticket, with sex extra and paid directly. Other houses publish other figures, or none. Look at the operator’s page for the house you are considering. Do not take one ticket as the industry rate.

Laufhaus, swinger club, sex cinema, tantra
A laufhaus is a brothel reduced to corridors. Workers rent rooms. Doors stay open when they are available. In most houses there is no entrance fee. You walk. You knock. You pay in the room.
A swinger club provides for sex between guests, not with staff. Houses that call themselves party venue, FKK club or sauna club often employ prostitutes, or let them in. In swinger clubs that is generally not the case. If you want that evening, the path is Swinger clubs, not a wellness brothel.
A sex cinema shows films, often in booths, 18+. Sex on site can happen. It is not a sauna day with rooms attached. Listings: Sex cinemas.
A tantra massage is a booked session, often including the genital area. German courts have treated some of those studios as sexual services. It is not a walk-in sauna club where you choose on the floor. The studio page is Tantra massage.
What the law looks at
If a business calls itself a “sauna club”, “FKK club” or “swinger club”, it is a prostitution venue if prostitutes work there with the operator’s knowledge.
Baden-Württemberg, administrative rule on the Prostitutes Protection Act
The federal ministry names sauna clubs as a business model of the prostitution trade. A venue permit under the Prostitutes Protection Act sits on top of the ordinary trade registration. The name on the door does not create an exception.
The Administrative Court of Würzburg treated an FKK sauna club as a prostitution venue: club room, sauna and changing area as meeting space, work rooms for sex, gastronomy as an annex. The Administrative Court of Gelsenkirchen treated a sauna club where women practised prostitution as a brothel or similar establishment for local amusement tax.
For intercourse, clients and sex workers must use condoms. Hamburg spells that out for oral, vaginal and anal sex. The fine is on the client, up to 50,000 euros. Operators must put up a notice and keep condoms in the service rooms. Advertising sex without a condom is banned.
Since 2002, a sexual act against an agreed fee creates an enforceable claim. Instructions about whether, how or how far a sexual service goes are not allowed. A worker may refuse or stop. Then you do not pay for that. Flat-rate models that bind someone to an open-ended number of acts are not permitted.
How many houses of this type exist is not broken out. Destatis counts prostitution venues together. At the end of 2024 it reported about 32,300 registered sex workers and about 2,250 permits for the trade. There is no official sauna-club subset.
What to settle before the door
- Who may enter: men alone, couples, women as guests? The house page, not the search.
- What is in the ticket, and what is extra. Ask the price for sex before anything starts. It is rarely online.
- Condoms. If the notice is missing, that is information about the house.
- Phone rules. Several operators ban phones and tablets in the rooms.
- No is enough. The Prostitution Act protects that. It is not a negotiation opener.
What the directory lists
Sauna clubs and FKK clubs are not a live listing category here. Neither are brothels or laufhäuser. If you meant sex between guests, start with Swinger clubs. If you meant films, Sex cinemas. If you meant a booked bodywork session, Tantra massage.
Short version: a sauna club is usually wellness as the set, and paid sex as the work. FKK on that door is not a naturist club. A laufhaus is corridors. A swinger club is guests. The sign does not rewrite the law.
Frequently asked questions
What is a sauna club?
In German usage, a contact sauna, often called a sauna club or FKK club, is typically a brothel: sauna and rest rooms for meeting, and separate rooms for paid sex. The door fee usually covers the house, not the sexual service.
Is an FKK club the same as naturism?
No. Freikörperkultur is communal nudity without a sexual purpose. Naturist associations say sexual acts are not part of that. An FKK club in the red-light trade uses the same letters for a commercial sex venue.
What is included in the entrance fee?
Typically lockers, a towel or robe, sauna or pool, often soft drinks or a buffet. Sex is extra. You agree type, duration and pay with the person, then go to a room. Houses differ. Read the operator’s page before you go.
How is it different from a laufhaus?
In a laufhaus, workers rent rooms. Guests walk the corridors. Most houses charge no door fee. A sauna club sells a day in the wellness rooms first. Sex is a second agreement.
How is it different from a swinger club?
In a swinger club, sex is between guests, not with staff. A sauna club or FKK club usually employs sex workers, or lets them work there. Different door, different evening.
Who may enter?
These houses are typically built for heterosexual men. Some welcome couples. A woman arriving alone as a wellness guest is often not provided for, because the women in the house are working. The house rules decide. Do not generalise.
Does the name sauna club change the law?
No. If prostitutes work there with the operator’s knowledge, German guidance treats it as a prostitution venue, including when the sign says sauna club, FKK club or swinger club. A condom is required for intercourse. The fine for clients can reach 50,000 euros.
